You're talking about real living History when you ask about the lives of everyday people during the war. As you posted this in the English History section I assume you mean English experience? I know that during the war there was extensive rationing in England of certain consumer goods: certain foods like sugar, butter, and yes TEA! and apparel. A tiny bit of this was the result of the conversion of the English economy to a war economy but a huge part was due to the German U-boat blockade of the British Isles. Although this was most acute during the Battle of Britain (beginning Fall 1940) and the Blitz, it caused significant social problems for the British people right up until 1943 when U.S. escort and general military might began to finally break the strangulation. Children of London families were hastily packed off to the country inland. Movies like Hope and Glory really help give a visual experience to the war from a kid's perspective. The 'Home Army' in England consisted of untrained militia that Churchill vigorously encouraged mostly to maintain public morale. The royal family of King George VI, his wife( the Queen Mum), and the two princesses Elizabeth and Margaret remained in the capital and regularly mingled with the people after bomb raids. The current Queen Elizabeth II was all of 14 at the time. A very small snapshot of everyday life during the war.

If the person posting this message left their e-mail address, we inserted some random characters to prevent spammers from harvesting their address. Spammers do this with automated "bots" that constantly search the Web looking for e-mail addresses. Since you're a human being, not a bot, you can easily obtain the real address by removing the text that says "ThisisToPreventSpam-XYZ-RemoveThis." including the random number XYZ and the period at the end. For example, <info@ThisIsToPreventSpam-123-RemoveThis.interesting.com> would become <info@interesting.com>.
